Natural Skincare Products You Should Know About

It has been a long struggle, but I have finally found the skincare products that work for my skin. After doing lots of research, I found a man on Youtube who has given me the best advice on the planet: make sure you're skincare products are natural and fragrance-free. His name is Hyram and his Youtube will be linked down below. His account has gained lots of traction this past year; I know that I was stoked when I came across his page about a year ago. He lays out what products to buy and what products not to buy, from face wash to serums. The reason Hyram knows best is because he is a skincare specialist and researches the ingredients within each and every product that he reviews. The reason I trust him so much because every product that I have tried from his recommendations has worked flawlessly.

So without further ado, here are the natural products that have worked for me and my skin in the past year.

Disclaimer: Not all of the products that I have listed are recommended by Hyram, but he was the inspiration when searching the ingredient lists.

I have a morning skincare routine, as well as one for the nighttime. Each routine uses different products because skin has different needs during the day time versus while you are asleep. My morning routine consists of a cleanser, a moisturizer, a serum, and a sunscreen. My nighttime routine consists of a makeup remover balm, micellar water, a cleanser, a serum, and a moisturizer.

Morning Skincare Routine:

  1. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser - $10

When I wake up in the mornings, I head straight to the bathroom to start my morning routine. I first wash my face with CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. I love this product because it is inexpensive and easy to find at a multitude of stores, including Target and Amazon. As Hyram has gained more traction, I noticed that this brand began to fill the shelves of stores. It is fragrance-free and claims to be great for normal to oily skin. I've noticed that this product cleans my skin very well, and I believe that is the main thing needed when looking for a morning cleanser.

2. Kiehl's Vitamin C Serum - $70

After my cleanser, I grab this serum and put it on right after washing my face. This product wasn't recommended by Hyram, but actually a lady helping me at Sephora. I asked her what her favorite serums in the store were and she took me straight to this one. She told me that it has the highest concentration of Vitamin C that she has ever seen in a serum (12.5%)! She told me to make sure that I put it on in the mornings after cleansing my skin and wait a few minutes before putting on the moisturizer so that the serum has time to soak into the skin. Vitamin C serum's main benefits are reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines, and dullness in the skin. I notice that my skin looks smoother and brighter after using this product. Also, I think as someone in college, it is great to use Vitamin C serum a preventative in order to avoid wrinkles in the future.

3. Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel-Cream - $15

I use this moisturizer after the Kiehl's serum and I absolutely love it. It is so hydrating and just feels so refreshing when I put it on. This was recommended by Hyram; he uses it in his own personal skincare regimen and says that the ingredients are really beneficial for hydration. It is a great price for the quality and can be found at multiple stores, such as Target and on Amazon.

4. CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 - $19

Ah. The last and final step to my morning skincare routine. This, for me, is one of the hardest to remember, but it is honestly the most important. I love this sunscreen especially because it is very light-weight and it doesn't feel like sunscreen. It doesn't feel oily on my skin, it simply feels like extra moisture. SPF is so important to have in your morning skincare because it is one of the most preventative things for your skin in terms of older age. It will prevent dark spots and wrinkles that will come as you get older. All of this is great, but the best benefits of wearing sunscreen is that it can reduce the risk of skin cancer. I know sunscreen can be an easy thing to forget, but you're skin will thank you later on!

Nighttime Skincare Routine:

  1. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Melting Balm - $10

This makeup remover has been an absolute game changer. After learning that makeup removing wipes can leave micro-tears in the skin, I immediately searched for an alternative that would remove my makeup after a long day. Hyram recommended this product, but I was still a little skeptical because no one I had talked to had ever tried a remover balm before. This product really does live up to the hype; my makeup had never come off this easily before using this product.

2. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water - $7

After putting the remover balm on my face, I get a cotton pad and use the micellar water to take off the excess makeup. These two products together have worked magically to get every bit of makeup off my face. They work hand-in-hand and one without the other just wouldn't do the job. They are much better for your skin than any makeup wipe on the market. I've also noticed that they leave my face feeling very soft.

3. Zo Skin Health Exfoliating Cleanser - $45

After removing my makeup, I use this exfoliating cleanser to clean my face before bed. This is a great nighttime cleanser because it can get rid of all of the dirt from my skin after a long day. I would say it is definitely meant for acne-prone skin because of the salicylic acid in it. It also has glycerin, which can help reduce acne and moisturize the skin. It always leaves my skin feeling very clean and refreshed.

4. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - $6

After cleansing, I make sure to apply this serum every night. The Ordinary is a brand that Hyram has always heavily advocated for. This brand ensures that their products have no harsh ingredients or fragrances. Their ingredient lists are extremely simple. This specific product reduces the look of blemishes and reduces the amount of oil produced by the skin. I have noticed a clear difference since the start of using this product.

5. Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer - $29

And finally, I have reached the end of a long day and skincare routine. I have recently added this moisturizer to my routine because coming back to the high altitudes in Boulder after being at the beach all summer, I knew my skin wasn't ready for the dryness. I knew I was going to need to do my research to find a thick moisturizer that would keep me skin soft throughout the night. I came across this product, and now I will never look back. It leaves my skin insanely soft and bright. The Retinol and vitamin B3 combination exfoliate dead skin at a cellular level. It is also anti-aging and helps to prevent breakouts.
